These terms are an agreement between you and Recovanta Ltd for your use of TraderTax. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
TraderTax is operated by Recovanta Ltd ("we", "us"), registered in England & Wales (company number 17171212), registered office Suite RA01, 195-197 Wood Street, London, E17 3NU. You can contact us at support@tradertax.co.uk.
TraderTax is a simple bookkeeping tool for self-employed people and small businesses. It lets you record income and expenses, log mileage, manage jobs, create invoices and quotes, keep receipts, and see an estimate of the tax you may owe based on the figures you enter.
This is important, so please read it carefully. TraderTax gives you estimates and helps you keep records. It is not tax, accounting, financial or legal advice, and it is not a substitute for advice from a qualified accountant or from HMRC.
To use TraderTax you must be at least 18 and using it for a UK trade or business. Please keep your login details secure and don't share your account. You're responsible for activity that happens under your account. Tell us promptly at support@tradertax.co.uk if you think someone else has accessed it.
New accounts get a 14-day free trial. You set up a Direct Debit when you sign up, but nothing is collected during the trial. Your first payment is taken after the 14 days unless you cancel before the trial ends. The amount and frequency of that first payment depend on the plan and billing cycle you choose — monthly or annual (see section 6). We'll email you a reminder before your trial ends and the first payment is due, so it's never a surprise. The trial is for new customers only (one per customer).
After the trial, TraderTax is a subscription paid by Direct Debit through GoCardless. You choose how you'd like to pay:
Current plans and prices, for both monthly and annual billing, are shown on our pricing page. The optional VAT tools are an add-on to your chosen plan and cycle.
You can cancel at any time from within the app (in Settings) or by emailing us at support@tradertax.co.uk.
Whenever an annual payment is taken — whether it's your first annual payment after the trial, or a later annual renewal — you have 14 days from the date of that payment to change your mind. If you cancel within those 14 days, we'll refund that annual payment in full and your access will end. After the 14 days, the cancellation terms below apply.
Outside the 14-day annual cooling-off period, and for monthly plans, cancelling works like this: your subscription continues until the end of the period you've already paid for, and then stops. We don't generally refund part of a period you've already started, except where the law requires.
After cancellation you'll still be able to view and export your records for a period before they're deleted, as set out in our Privacy Policy. Please export anything you want to keep.
The records you enter are yours. We handle your personal data as described in our Privacy Policy. You're responsible for keeping your own copies of anything important — the app's export feature lets you download your records at any time.
Please use TraderTax lawfully and sensibly. Don't try to break, overload, copy or reverse-engineer the service, don't use it to store unlawful content, and don't attempt to access other people's accounts. We may suspend or close accounts that misuse the service.
We work hard to keep TraderTax running smoothly, but we provide it "as is" and "as available". We can't guarantee it will always be uninterrupted or error-free, and we may occasionally need to take it down for maintenance or updates.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability where it would be unlawful to do so (for example, for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud).
Subject to that, we are not liable for: business losses, loss of profit, loss of data, or any indirect or consequential loss; or for anything arising from your reliance on the app's tax estimates (see section 3). Our total liability to you in any 12-month period is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in that period.
We may update the service and these terms from time to time. If we make a significant change to the terms, we'll let you know by email or in the app. Continuing to use TraderTax after a change means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the law of England & Wales, and disputes will be subject to the courts of England & Wales.
